Full requirements

The CFIA publishes a certificate for dogs and cats going to Brazil, form HA2348, negotiated for this route.

Microchip
Recorded if the pet has one; Ordinance 741 asks that a chip meet ISO 11784 or 11785 and that its location be noted
Rabies vaccination
Over 3 months of age. HA2348 asks for the shot at least 21 days before the animal arrives in Brazil, and the ordinance counts that wait, for a first shot, to departure. A younger animal may arrive unvaccinated only where HA2348 certifies its age and that it has not been exposed to urban rabies in the past 90 days
Rabies titre
Not asked for on HA2348 or in Ordinance 741
Parasite treatment
Internal and external, broad spectrum, given in the 15 days before HA2348 is issued
Veterinary examination
In the 10 days before issue, with no clinical signs of parasitic or infectious disease

Pet Shipping from Canada to Brazil

Entry rules for a dog or cat are set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil in Ordinance 741 of 10 December 2024, the text that made the MERCOSUR bloc’s 2024 conditions part of Brazilian law. VIGIAGRO, the ministry’s international agricultural surveillance service, rules on each animal at the port where it lands. Which route does a pet take into Brazil?

By plane, with the carrier choosing between cabin and hold. The ministry’s answers on pet travel, updated 11 September 2025, tie a cabin seat to how big and heavy the animal is and to the carrier’s internal rules, and leave crate requirements and minimum dimensions to the airline. HA2348 also serves for entering or returning to the MERCOSUR countries, provided the rabies vaccination remains valid.

What are the entry requirements for pets going to Brazil?

The short answer

From Canada, the requirements are those printed on the HA2348 certificate, which a licensed veterinarian completes and the CFIA endorses before the pet leaves Canada.

Which pets can enter Brazil?

Dogs and cats, on the HA2348 certificate. Under Ordinance 741, Brazil may refuse entry to an animal that has had a diagnosis of leishmaniasis, which is worth settling with the veterinarian at the first visit.

The ordinance treats a female arriving with nursing young under 90 days old as one biological unit: her health is certified, and the ordinance asks the certificate to list the litter’s sex, number and birth dates. Ready to start? Request a quote.

What vet work and documents does a pet need for Brazil?

HA2348 records the rabies shot, a broad spectrum parasite treatment, internal and external, using products the Government of Canada authorizes, and an examination finding the animal fit for transport, along with any other vaccinations and anything administered in the three months before issue. Read on 25 September 2026, neither HA2348 nor Ordinance 741 fixes which of the treatment and the examination comes first. Brazil’s entry page for dogs and cats, updated 18 August 2025, says the ordinance’s model certificate has been mandatory since 6 September 2025, while the CFIA’s export page, dated 31 March 2025, still links HA2348, last amended 6 February 2017. The CFIA animal health office can confirm which form it will endorse before the vet visit is booked.

Planning Timeline for Pet Shipping to Brazil

Book the CFIA endorsement appointment early and plan backwards from HA2348’s issue date: the examination has to fall within 10 of the preceding days, the parasite treatment within 15. A pet needing a rabies shot has it first, at least 21 days before landing in Brazil. From its date of issue, HA2348 then covers 60 days.

Questions about moving a pet to Brazil

Request a Quote

Which Canadian airports will my pet fly from to Brazil?

That depends on the airline flying the pet and on where it travels on board, and a drive to a farther airport is booked on its own. The same goes for the leg from the Brazilian arrival airport to the new home.

When is the best time to fly a pet from Canada to Brazil?

Brazil does not appear in the table on Air Canada’s pet travel page, read 16 September 2026, of destinations and dates closed to animals in its baggage compartment. Air Canada’s limits for the colder months, by date, temperature and aircraft, are set out in our fall and winter restrictions guide, and any other airline is judged on its own policy.

How much does it cost to move a pet from Canada to Brazil?

Every move is priced individually, because the route from Canada, airline fees, your pet’s size and crate, the season, and Brazil’s requirements all change the total. Tell us your city and timing and we’ll put together an estimate: request a quote.

How does Pet Travel Advisors handle a Canada-to-Brazil move?

Take one part or all of them: flights, a travel crate, HA2348 and the rest of the paperwork, check-in at the departing airport, and collection in Brazil with delivery to the new address. Door-to-door relocation joins them into one booking.
