Pet Shipping from Canada to Mexico

Mexico checks a pet from Canada in person rather than on paper: SENASICA examines it at the point of entry, and the CFIA says a health certificate is no longer needed. Which route does a pet take into Mexico?

Through the port, airport or land crossing where the journey ends, each of which has a SENASICA office. A flight connecting in the United States, or a drive through it, brings American entry rules into play as well, the CFIA notes. For a pet travelling as cargo, SENASICA suggests checking the airline’s own requirements and considering an agent to clear the animal through customs. Booking the flight and checking your pet in at the airport are both part of the service.

What are the entry requirements for pets going to Mexico?

The short answer

From Canada, the CFIA says the pet should travel in a clean carrier with no bedding or accessories, carrying only enough food for the day of arrival, and a pet with a skin condition should bring a licensed veterinarian’s letter giving the diagnosis and treatment.

Which pets can enter Mexico?

Dogs and cats from Canada, on the inspection alone: SENASICA’s guidance for travellers arriving with a pet, dated 4 August 2026, says a pet from Canada needs to show neither a health certificate nor a vaccination card. For any other kind of pet, SENASICA points to its online lookup of import requirements, and where one is not listed there it asks for an emailed request, then runs a risk analysis and, where it allows the import, sets conditions.

A SENASICA employee examines the animal for signs of infectious and contagious disease, external parasites, rashes, and open or healing wounds, the CFIA says. A tick goes to the official laboratory for identification, and the animal remains at OISA until the result shows it is not foreign to Mexico and every parasite has been removed, with tests and treatment at the owner’s expense. What vet work and documents does a pet need for Mexico?

Neither government page read on 25 September 2026 asks a healthy pet for vet work in advance: the CFIA’s says a health certificate is no longer needed, and SENASICA’s does not ask a pet from Canada for a vaccination card. A pet being treated for a skin condition is the exception, and needs the veterinarian’s letter described above.

Planning Timeline for Pet Shipping to Mexico

Everything Mexico asks for happens on arrival, according to SENASICA, so the timing comes down to the flight and the season. For a pet flying on Air Canada as checked baggage, the summer and winter limits set out in the questions below decide which weeks are open.

Questions about moving a pet to Mexico

Which Canadian airports will my pet fly from to Mexico?

Whichever one the airline taking the pet flies from, which depends on your city, your dates and whether that carrier accepts animals in the hold that season. Getting the pet to the departure airport by road can be booked as well.

When is the best time to fly a pet from Canada to Mexico?

From Canada the season cuts both ways. Air Canada’s passenger page on travelling with animals, read 16 September 2026, lists Mexico among the destinations where pets may not ride in the baggage compartment from 1 July to 31 August, and it publishes separate cold-weather limits by date, temperature and aircraft, which our guide to fall and winter pet travel restrictions explains. Both restrictions cover pets flying as checked baggage, and Air Canada Cargo publishes its own conditions.

How much does it cost to move a pet from Canada to Mexico?

Every move is priced individually, because the route from Canada, airline fees, your pet’s size and crate, the season, and Mexico’s requirements all change the total. Tell us your city and timing and we’ll put together an estimate: request a quote.

How does Pet Travel Advisors handle a Canada-to-Mexico move?

Each piece can be booked on its own: airline tickets, a travel crate that suits the carrier’s rules, the check-in before your flight leaves Canada, and someone to meet the pet at the Mexican airport and drive it to your new address. Taken together they make a door-to-door move.
