Pet Relocation from Winnipeg
Pet transportation in Winnipeg is planned around extreme winter cold and hot summer temperatures.
How a Move from Winnipeg Works
A Winnipeg move takes only the pet relocation services you ask for, from one flight booked at YWG to a pickup at your home.
Flights and check-in
We book your pet’s flights from Winnipeg Richardson (YWG), set the dates around the weather, the season and each airline’s rules for pets, and handle the check-in with the airline on travel day.
Door to door, when you book it
Door-to-door pet transport adds the road legs. A partner driver collects your pet from home, anywhere within roughly one to two hours’ drive of Winnipeg, and handles the check-in personally, and we meet your pet at the arrival airport.
Paperwork for a move abroad
For a move abroad, CFIA endorses the export certificate before your pet leaves Canada. CFIA’s appointment page, read 22 September 2026, says the endorsement is booked by appointment through a local CFIA office, with no walk-ins, and that the fee is paid online at least 3 days before the appointment. We prepare the certificate with you and your veterinarian, including an import permit where the destination country asks for one, and check each document against the destination’s rules. Our destination guides set out each country’s requirements.
Arriving
Moving a Pet to Winnipeg
Pets arriving in Winnipeg from another country are held to CFIA’s import rules, which are the subject of our guide to bringing a pet to Canada. When you live in the city, the City of Winnipeg’s pet licence page, read 23 September 2026, says the Responsible Pet Ownership By-law requires all dogs and cats over the age of six months to be licensed.
How the service works from start to finish is on our pet transport services page.

What to Expect When Shipping a Pet Through Winnipeg Airport (YWG)
Who actually handles your pet at YWG
Air Canada Cargo runs the AC Animals product out of 2019 Sargent Avenue, Unit 10. The station runs every day, 07:00 to 17:30. Air Canada Cargo says that from 1 November to 31 March it does not accept warm-blooded animals as cargo on some of its narrowbody fleet, because their cargo holds are not heated. A winter booking needs slack in the schedule. The tender window is narrow: an animal must be tendered no later than three hours before departure and no earlier than four, so it is a one-hour slot rather than a morning.
Air Canada Cargo’s before you book page, read 15 September 2026, says door-to-door service is not available for animals, so somebody has to take the crate to the counter and somebody has to collect it. Bookings inside Canada go direct to Air Canada at least 24 hours ahead; bookings to the United States or overseas have to be placed through a registered IPATA, IATA or ATA agent rather than by the owner. We book the CFIA endorsement appointment against the flight rather than the move date.
CFIA endorsement and where cargo animals are handled
There is no separate animal reception centre at this airport. Animals travelling as cargo are dropped off and collected at the cargo handler building, not at the passenger terminals. On the export side, CFIA endorsement of a pet export certificate is by appointment only. Walk-ins are not accepted, the fee is calculated by a CFIA officer, and it has to be paid online at least 3 days before the appointment. It is non-refundable.
Temperature limits and ground handling
Airlines decide whether a pet flies, not the airport. Carriers refuse an animal in the hold when forecast ground temperatures fall outside their published limits, and they layer seasonal embargoes on top of that. Air Canada Cargo also requires a comfort stop when a connection runs longer than 6 hours, or when an animal is not collected within 4 hours of arrival: the animal goes to a kennel or a veterinary service and those fees fall to the shipper. Between drop-off and loading your pet waits in the cargo handler building rather than a dedicated animal terminal, so the acceptance window and the handler opening hours are what a travel date has to be built around.
Pet Relief Areas
YWG offers two main pet relief areas, one outside the terminal near arrivals and another in the boarding area after security for departing pets. These areas provide waste disposal stations, water stations, and comfortable, safe areas for pets to relax before travel.

Questions about moving a pet to or from Winnipeg
Request a QuoteFrequently Asked Questions
Can pets still fly out of Winnipeg in winter?
Winter is the main scheduling factor for Winnipeg moves. When temperatures drop, airlines apply cold-weather limits and may hold animals from cargo on the coldest days. We plan around it by choosing milder travel windows and midday departures from YWG, and by routing through warmer connections when the forecast calls for it, so your pet travels safely.
Can you ship a pet overseas from Winnipeg?
Yes. Overseas routing from Winnipeg is chosen for each move on the weather, the season and airline availability. We plan the full route from your Winnipeg pickup, prepare the destination’s import paperwork and the CFIA export endorsement, and keep the timing tight. See our destination guides.
Do you offer door-to-door pet transport from Winnipeg?
Yes. Many Winnipeg families want the whole move handled, so we can arrange ground pickup from your home, the airport hand-off, and delivery at the other end. One coordinator stays with the journey from your Winnipeg door to the destination.
Do you offer a pet taxi service within Winnipeg?
We are not an on-demand pet taxi, but we do arrange scheduled ground transport within Winnipeg and across Manitoba as part of a full move: pickup at your door, a secure crate for the ride, and drop off at YWG or your new address. If your pet needs a ride to the airport as part of a relocation we manage, that leg is built into the plan.
How is the cost of a Winnipeg pet move decided?
Every Winnipeg move is priced on its own, because the route, airline fees, your pet’s size and crate, the season, and the destination’s rules all change the total. Tell us where and when, and we’ll put together an estimate: request a quote. For a closer look at what drives the price, see our guide to pet shipping costs in Canada.
