Pet Shipping from Canada to Singapore

Singapore’s Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) sorts exporting countries into three groups by rabies risk, and Canada is on Schedule II, beside the United States, Japan and several European countries. For a Canadian pet that means a titre test, which pets from Australia or the United Kingdom do not need, and none of the 30 days or more at the Animal Quarantine Centre that pets from unlisted countries serve. Which route does a pet take into Singapore?

A pet flying in from Canada is inspected at the Changi Animal & Plant Quarantine Station, part of Changi Airfreight Centre, and one arriving overland at Tuas Checkpoint, as the Animal and Veterinary Service sets out. Its inspection is reserved online, quoting the import licence, the flight and a phone number. At check-in the import licence is shown, and a captain’s declaration, signed for the operating airline, is handed to AVS at the inspection, even after a connection in a Schedule III country. A pet that flies in the cabin also needs a hard-sided crate meeting IATA’s container rules, since that is how it reaches the quarantine station; soft bags are refused for the trip.

What are the entry requirements for pets going to Singapore?

The short answer

Canada is on Singapore’s Schedule II, so a Canadian pet needs the licences, the microchip, rabies vaccination and titre test, the core vaccines, and parasite treatment with its health certificate in the 2 to 7 days before export, plus a captain’s declaration endorsed by the airline.

Which pets can enter Singapore?

Singapore prohibits the import of Pit Bull variants, the Akita, the Boerboel, the Dogo Argentino, the Fila Brasileiro, the Neapolitan Mastiff, the Tosa, the Perro de Presa Canario and crosses of any of them. Your pet must also be at least twelve weeks old at the time of export. A second layer applies even to an allowed breed: specified dogs cannot be kept in an HDB flat at all, and only one is permitted in a non-HDB residence, so the address question is settled before the flight.

Canada sits on Singapore’s Schedule II, and a personal pet from there skips post-arrival quarantine when it arrives fewer than 5 days after its owner’s own entry into Singapore and has shared a home with them, without a break, for over 6 months. Where either condition fails on a personal import licence, home quarantine of 10 days or more applies. AVS has to approve that quarantine before the import licence is applied for. A commercial import goes to the Animal Quarantine Centre for at least 10 days.

Two further checks sit with AVS. Bengal and Savannah crosses are admitted from the fifth generation onward, on documentary proof. And the import licence application for a mixed breed dog needs a colour photo of the face and body, which lets AVS rule out a prohibited breed. Ready to start? Request a quote.

What vet work and documents does a pet need for Singapore?

AVS asks for a microchip to ISO standard 11784, or 11785 Annex A, with its number written on each vaccination and treatment record. Rabies protection has to be current, from an inactivated or recombinant vaccine given as its manufacturer recommends. A dog also needs vaccination against canine distemper virus, canine adenovirus type 1 and canine parvovirus type 2, and a cat against feline calicivirus, feline herpesvirus-1 and feline panleukopenia, each recorded with its date, the brand and batch number, and the signature of the vet who gave it. The rabies antibody titre is tested either at a WOAH reference lab or at a lab that a Schedule I or II country’s authority has approved, and has to show 0.5 IU/ml or more. Then, in the week before export, 2 to 7 days out, come the parasite treatments, and your own vet completes Sections I to III of Singapore’s certificate. A CFIA official veterinarian endorses Section IV, before the pet leaves Canada.

Rabies titre0.5 IU/ml or higher. Sample taken at least 28 days after vaccination, and at least 90 days and within 12 months before export

QuarantineWaived for a personal pet landing under 5 days after its owner, after over 6 months at one shared address; otherwise home quarantine of at least 10 days

This checklist rests on three government pages. Singapore’s Animal and Veterinary Service page on importing dogs and cats, read 23 September 2026 and updated two days earlier, covers the three schedules, rabies timing, both licences, the inspection on arrival and quarantine. The CFIA’s Singapore page for exporting dogs and cats, read 25 September 2026, hands the requirements back to AVS and says who signs the certificate, and its page on endorsement appointments, read 22 September 2026, explains the booking.

Planning Timeline for Pet Shipping to Singapore

The titre test sets the pace. A first rabies shot has to be 28 days old before the sample is taken, though AVS allows the test straight away when a booster went in before the previous dose expired, and export has to wait 90 days or more beyond the draw: in the AVS worked example, a sample from 1 January 2026 allows import from 1 April 2026. The dog or cat licence comes next. The import licence follows it and runs for 90 days from issue. The Changi inspection is reserved at least 5 days before landing. The parasite treatments and the certificate fall in the final 2 to 7 days, and the CFIA endorsement follows before departure.

Vietnam and Indonesia are covered on their own pages, with the CFIA steps for each.

Every Pet Travels Differently

Different destinations, different routes, different challenges.

  • Destination-Focused Planning

AVS collects the captain’s declaration at the Changi inspection, and each vaccination record has to carry the pet’s chip number. Every document is compared with the rest ahead of the CFIA appointment.

  • Smart Routing and Logistics

We help choose practical routes, travel windows, and handoff procedures so your pet’s trip is safer and more predictable.

  • Personalized Support

Pet Travel Advisors assigns a move coordinator who keeps you updated and checks details before travel so nothing important is missed.

Questions about moving a pet to Singapore

Which Canadian airports will my pet fly from to Singapore?

No departure airport is fixed in advance. The airline that will carry the pet, and whether it rides in the cabin or the hold, decides where it leaves from, and a road transfer to that airport can be booked as a separate service. At Changi, crates bigger than 82 by 64 by 58 cm on the outside (length, height, width) have to be collected in person; AVS hands smaller ones left uncollected to a transport contractor, for an extra fee.

What does Canada require to send my pet to Singapore?

The CFIA’s Singapore page for exporting dogs and cats, read 25 September 2026, sends exporters to the requirements and certificate AVS publishes. A Canadian licensed veterinarian fills in that certificate, and a CFIA official then endorses it at an appointment booked ahead, which cannot happen once the animal has left Canada. The CFIA also advises checking the certificate against the import licence before the trip.

When is the best time to fly a pet from Canada to Singapore?

Air Canada’s pets page, read 16 September 2026, sets cold-weather limits for animals in its baggage compartment by date, temperature and aircraft type, which our fall and winter restrictions guide covers, and the same page’s list of destinations closed to pets in the hold for set dates has no row for Singapore. The season is judged against whichever carrier is booked.

How much does it cost to move a pet from Canada to Singapore?

Every move is priced individually, because the route from Canada, airline fees, your pet’s size and crate, the season, and Singapore’s requirements all change the total. Tell us your city and timing and we’ll put together an estimate: request a quote.

How does Pet Travel Advisors handle a Canada-to-Singapore move?

The pieces are sold separately as well as together: flights, a travel crate meeting IATA’s container rules, the AVS licence applications and the CFIA certificate, check-in at the Canadian airport, and pickup at Changi with delivery to the new address. A move can go door-to-door or use only the pieces it needs.
